The Catskill Police Department has issued a warning to residents about a scam involving fake Microsoft alerts. These scams use deceptive pop-up messages to trick users into calling a fake "technical support hotline." Once connected, scammers may gain access to personal information by accessing the victim's computer.

According to NEWS10 ABC, these fraudulent messages often put the user's browser in full-screen mode, displaying persistent pop-ups that are difficult to close. The police advise residents to verify the source of any suspicious messages and to never provide personal or financial information without proper verification.

Microsoft has confirmed that it does not send unsolicited emails or make phone calls to request personal or financial information. The Catskill Police Department encourages anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to this scam to report it by calling (518) 943-2244.
