Poughkeepsie police have arrested 50-year-old Denise Gilpin in connection with the fatal stabbing of her mother, Olga Hinds-Coley, aged 78. The incident occurred on Monday (April 7) at the victim's home on Oak Crescent Street. According to the Mid-Hudson News, police responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Hinds-Coley with a stab wound to the chest. She was transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Gilpin was located in another part of the house and taken into custody as a person of interest. After a thorough investigation, she was charged with second-degree murder, as reported by Yahoo News. She was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and is being held at the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
The motive behind the stabbing has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing. Detective Lieutenant Sean McCarthy has urged anyone with information to contact the confidential tip line at 845-451-7577. Gilpin is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Friday (April 11). Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat related to this incident.
