Kingston is planning to build a new skatepark at Hasbrouck Park, with construction potentially starting as early as 2026. The project is primarily funded by a $670,296 grant from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation’s Environmental Protection Fund. The city will contribute an additional $223,432, covering 23.24% of the project cost.

Project manager Jack Schoonmaker announced that the Kingston Common Council will vote in May to approve the grant. Once approved, the city will seek proposals for professional services, ensuring public involvement in the design process. Schoonmaker mentioned that the skatepark will be open during regular park hours, but details about lighting and enclosure are yet to be finalized.

Mayor Steven T. Noble expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating that the skatepark will add to Kingston's outdoor recreational amenities and provide a safe space for youth activities. The funding is part of a larger $2.78 million grant package awarded to Kingston for various projects, including improvements to the Binnewater Reservoir Dam and updates to the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan.

The skatepark project is one of several initiatives aimed at enhancing Kingston's community and infrastructure. According to Daily Freeman, the city is committed to involving residents in the planning stages to ensure the park meets community needs and expectations.
