Hudson is gearing up for the upcoming Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 26. Residents in Columbia and Greene counties are encouraged to dispose of expired or unused prescription medications at designated collection sites. The event aims to safely remove these drugs from homes to prevent misuse and potential opioid addiction.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts this national event twice a year, providing communities across the United States with a safe and responsible way to dispose of medications. According to the DEA, the initiative is part of their commitment to reducing drug-related violence and overdoses by encouraging the public to clear out their medicine cabinets.

In the twin counties, collection sites will be available at the Columbia and Greene County Sheriff's offices, Greene's Hannaford, and the Chatham Police Department. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the day of the event.

The previous Take Back Day in October 2024 saw significant participation, with over 314 tons of medication collected nationwide. The DEA reports that since the initiative's inception in 2010, more than 19.2 million pounds of prescription drugs have been safely disposed of.
