New York Congressman Josh Riley has launched an investigation into the pricing practices of Upstate utility companies in response to numerous complaints from residents about rising utility bills. Riley is focusing on how these rate hikes are impacting families in New York's 19th Congressional District.
As part of the investigation, Riley has requested detailed billing data from New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) and is questioning whether customer payments are contributing to corporate profits overseas. He has also intervened in Central Hudson's case with the New York State Public Service Commission, which is reviewing the company's request for another rate increase.
Riley is encouraging residents to participate in a survey to share their experiences and utility bill information. The feedback will help shape the investigation and guide potential legislative or regulatory actions. Riley emphasized, "You sent me to Congress to take on the special interests and make it a little bit easier for you and your family to make ends meet."
Since taking office, Riley has prioritized reducing costs for working families, introducing bipartisan legislation like the Lowering Egg Prices Act and the Weatherization Enhancement & Readiness Act. He has also advocated for strengthening domestic manufacturing in New York.
