Republicans are making another attempt to prosecute former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo over his handling of COVID-19-related nursing home deaths. Representative James Comer of Kentucky, who chairs a House subcommittee, has resubmitted the case to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, accusing Cuomo of lying to Congress about the state's report on nursing home fatalities during the pandemic. This renewed effort comes as Cuomo is a leading candidate in the New York City mayoral race.

The push to prosecute Cuomo was previously attempted in the fall when Democrats held power, but no action was taken. Now, with Republicans seeking a different outcome, the case has gained renewed attention. According to National Review, Comer's referral to the Department of Justice highlights allegations that Cuomo's administration undercounted the number of COVID-19-related deaths in nursing homes.

A spokesperson for Cuomo has dismissed the prosecutorial efforts as politically motivated. The former governor has consistently denied any wrongdoing in his handling of the pandemic.

As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen how this will impact Cuomo's candidacy in the upcoming mayoral election. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for both Cuomo's political future and the broader political landscape.
