Customers of Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation have the chance to voice their opinions on proposed rate hikes during a virtual hearing tonight (April 23). State Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha is hosting the event, which begins at 7 p.m. The hearing allows residents to express their views on Central Hudson's request to increase electric delivery rates by over five percent and gas delivery rates by nearly six percent.

Central Hudson has filed amendments to its electric and gas tariff schedules with the New York State Public Service Commission. The company aims to raise its annual electric delivery revenues by approximately $47 million and gas delivery revenues by about $15 million. According to Central Hudson, the proposed increases are necessary to replace aging infrastructure, cover labor costs, and address cybersecurity threats. The company also cites rising uncollectable expenses due to growing customer arrears as a factor.

The New York State Public Service Commission will consider these proposals and any modifications suggested by the public and participating parties. Administrative Law Judges will oversee the collection of public comments and evidence related to these matters. Those wishing to participate in tonight's hearing must register in advance.
