Kingston police have provided more information about the deaths of a local couple in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide. On Wednesday (April 23), 45-year-old Caleb Smith fatally stabbed his wife, 37-year-old Kaleigh Griffin, at her apartment on Fair Street. Shortly after, Smith took his own life by jumping off the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge.

According to Mid Hudson News, the incident occurred around noon. After Smith's body was recovered from the Hudson River, officers went to Griffin's residence to inform her of her husband's death, only to discover her body. The couple's two young children are safe and being cared for by family members.

The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Kingston Police Department’s Detective Division at 845-331-8404 or email detectives@kingston-ny.gov.

As reported by Hudson Valley One, both individuals were residents of Kingston and had previously lived in Connecticut. The case remains under active investigation as authorities seek to understand the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
