The post office located at Hudson Valley Mall in Ulster is set to close permanently on May 29. This closure marks another step in the decline of the once-bustling shopping center. Starting May 30, postal services will be redirected to the Kingston Post Office on Cornell Street, which is over three miles away.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has not provided a specific reason for the closure, but it is part of broader restructuring efforts due to significant financial challenges faced nationwide. According to Hudson Valley One, the USPS has been undergoing significant changes to address these issues.
The Hudson Valley Mall Post Office was one of the few remaining businesses in the mall, which has been struggling with vacancies. The Daily Freeman noted that the post office provided a full range of services to the local community.
As the transition approaches, the USPS appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the community. Residents are encouraged to utilize the Kingston Post Office for their mailing needs starting at the end of May.
