The $22 million renovation project at Dietz Stadium in Kingston has been completed, marking a significant upgrade to the facility. The stadium, which seats 2,000 people, now features a new track and turf field, a new scoreboard, upgraded concession areas, and LED lighting. These improvements were funded in part by a $2.5 million grant from the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the completion of the renovations, stating that the project enhances both community pride and regional opportunity. The stadium serves as a key venue for Kingston City School District athletics and is home to the Kingston Stockade Football Club, a semi-professional soccer team.
The renovation included interior and exterior grandstand improvements, new locker rooms, and enhanced restroom facilities. The area around the stadium has also been made more accessible, with new landscaping and pedestrian pathways. According to Times Union, the stadium has been a central part of Kingston's sports community for over a century, originally built as a baseball field in 1921 and later expanded.
Mayor Steven T. Noble expressed gratitude for the support the project received and hosted an open house on Saturday (May 3) to celebrate the completion. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new facilities. The renovations are expected to benefit the community for years to come, providing a state-of-the-art venue for sports and public events.
