Greene County 911 has issued a warning about road flooding throughout the county, urging drivers to exercise caution. Due to excessive rain, there is a risk of downed trees and hidden road damage beneath standing water. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded areas and report any flooding or road debris by calling 911 so appropriate resources can be dispatched.
The flooding comes as the Northeast faces persistent rainfall and thunderstorms, driven by an Omega blocking pattern. This weather pattern, named after the Greek letter Ω, has stalled a low-pressure system over the Tennessee and Ohio valleys, channeling moisture into the region. According to FOX Weather, the system is expected to linger on the East Coast for several days, with rain totals potentially reaching three to five inches in some areas.
While flash flooding is possible, significant flooding is considered unlikely due to the scattered nature of the storms. The affected area includes New York City, Poughkeepsie, and parts of Connecticut. Meteorologists warn that the slow-moving pattern will keep the region locked in place with rain for the foreseeable future.
