The 2025 Kingston Clean Sweep campaign has been hailed as a success after volunteers collected more than 1.5 tons of trash and yard waste in just three hours on Saturday (May 3). The event, organized by the Friends of Historic Kingston, brought together over 175 volunteers from 25 local organizations, including schools, businesses, and youth groups, according to the Daily Freeman.
Volunteers focused their efforts on the "Kingston Corridor," which stretches from the railroad crossing on Washington Avenue through the uptown business district and down to the Rondout waterfront. They collected a variety of items, including scrap metal and automobile tires. The cleanup was supported by the City of Kingston and various civic organizations, as noted by UlsterCorps.
The event, now in its 16th year, aims to beautify the city and foster community spirit. Participants ranged from students to senior citizens, all working together to improve their local environment. The Daily Freeman reported that the event has become a cherished tradition in Kingston, New York, bringing together diverse groups for a common cause.
