Registration is now open for Dutchess County's Household Hazardous Waste and Recycling event. The first of three events this year will take place on Saturday, June 7, at the Department of Public Works in Poughkeepsie. County Executive Sue Serino emphasized her commitment to environmental protection and sustainability through these events.
The event provides residents with a safe and responsible way to dispose of hazardous waste and electronics that cannot be discarded through regular recycling or garbage bins. Items such as television sets, computer monitors, telephones, pesticides, and pool chemicals are accepted. However, hazardous waste in containers larger than 10 gallons will not be accepted.
Registration is limited to the first 380 households, and a $10 fee is required. Residents can register online or by calling (845) 463-6020. According to the Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste Management, this event is popular and often reaches capacity quickly, so early registration is encouraged.
Another event will be held at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck in September. These initiatives are part of the county's ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and community engagement. Residents are encouraged to participate and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
