A flood watch is in effect today for the entire Hudson Valley region, with a storm system expected to bring significant rainfall. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts between one and three inches of precipitation before the storm moves out on Saturday (May 10). Strong winds accompanying the rain could create hazardous travel conditions and potentially cause isolated power outages. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts through the NWS website.
The FOX Forecast Center highlights that the northeast, including parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, is under a Level 1 out of 4 flash flood threat. The heaviest rain is expected along the Connecticut coastline, with up to three inches forecasted. Additionally, there is a risk of severe weather, including damaging wind gusts and hail, particularly in central and eastern New York.
The current weather pattern, described as a cutoff low-pressure system, is drawing moisture from the Atlantic Ocean, resulting in persistent rain across the region. This system is expected to exit the area by Saturday afternoon, offering a brief respite before another potential rain event on Friday (May 16).
