Dutchess County is actively encouraging developers to apply for grants aimed at boosting affordable housing development. The county recently held a workshop in Poughkeepsie to guide developers of all sizes through the application process for the Housing Trust Fund (HTF) program, which offers up to $3 million for creating or preserving affordable housing. This includes support for smaller projects in rural areas.

County Executive Sue Serino expressed gratitude for the strong turnout at the workshop, emphasizing the importance of affordable housing for community health and economic stability. "Affordable housing is important for the health of our community and economy, and our Housing Trust Fund helps us do more than build homes. It helps people build better lives," Serino stated.

The HTF is a flexible funding source aimed at addressing housing challenges by supporting new construction, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, property acquisition, and preservation of existing units. The initiative is part of Dutchess County's broader strategy to ensure residents have access to safe and affordable living options.

Applications are now open for developers, with detailed instructions available on the county's online grant portal. The deadline to apply is June 9. Developers who missed the workshop can find more information about eligibility and application requirements on the Department of Planning & Development’s website.
