Hudson residents may soon face higher parking fees as the Common Council considers a proposal to triple the cost of parking in short-term municipal lots. If approved, the rate would increase from 25 cents to 75 cents per hour, according to a report from the Daily Gazette. The proposal, introduced at a recent council meeting, aims to fund the installation of parking kiosks in these lots and test them for potential use on unmetered sections of Warren Street.

The installation of the kiosks is part of a broader effort to modernize Hudson's parking system and increase revenue. As previously reported, the city plans to place 16 kiosks at key locations, including Warren Street, the Union Street municipal parking lot, and near the Hudson Amtrak Station on South Street. The new system is expected to generate an additional $150,000 annually.

While there is no set timeline for when the kiosks will be operational, the council has already authorized their purchase for $148,599.49, with a monthly service fee of $1,520. The installation will occur in phases, beginning with the South Front Street municipal parking lot.

The council is also exploring additional measures, such as discounts for seniors and people with disabilities and a permit system for residents. Updates on the installation process will be available on the city's Parking Bureau website.
