As NJ Transit train engineers go on strike, Metro-North Railroad is stepping in to offer alternative commuting options for Rockland County riders. Metro-North is honoring West of Hudson rail tickets on its East of the Hudson Line or Harlem Line, providing a crucial travel alternative for commuters affected by the strike.
According to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the strike could begin as early as Friday (May 16). Metro-North President Justin Vonashek stated, "Our personnel have been planning alternatives for weeks and we strongly encourage customers to cross the river and use our highly reliable rail options for the duration of any New Jersey Transit work stoppage."
Metro-North is also accepting passes on Hudson Link Buses and the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry, as well as cross-honoring parking passes at the North White Plains station in Westchester. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that free rides are available for Port Jervis Line and Pascack Valley Line customers into New York City, with free parking at ferry locations.
The strike, led by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, affects NJ Transit services west of the Hudson. Commuters are urged to explore other West of Hudson transit options, such as the Hudson Link express bus service, to ensure safe travel during the disruption. The duration of the strike remains uncertain, but commuters may need to rely on these alternatives through the weekend.
