Ulster County has received state approval to extend its ambulance services. County Executive Jen Metzger announced that the county now holds the necessary certificate of need, which allows it to bill Medicare and Medicaid for ambulance services. This development will enable the county to collaborate with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies and local communities to ensure Advanced Life Support (ALS) coverage in specific underserved areas.

According to Mid Hudson News, the county's Department of Emergency Services will facilitate extending contracts with existing providers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve access to essential medical care for residents.

Metzger emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating that it is crucial for people to have access to the care they need. The county's move to enhance its ambulance services is expected to provide significant benefits to the community, particularly in areas that have been underserved in the past.
