The village of Ellenville plans to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant using funds from a Community Development Block Grant. The project, estimated to cost $6 million, aims to address deficiencies identified by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in 2022. Planned improvements include concrete walkway and railing repairs, HVAC upgrades, control and electrical upgrades, and refurbishment of the sludge drying beds. A new dewatering system will be added to the plant, partially enclosing the existing steel structure over the sludge drying beds.
The project will disturb less than one acre of land, with no increase in impervious surface coverage. Partial funding will come from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation State Revolving Funds and CDBG Small Cities funds, which will be requested in July 2025. If approved, the project review will begin in December 2025, with the construction contract expected to be awarded by June 2026.
The village is accepting written comments on the project until June 9, 2025. Comments can be submitted to the Village Hall or via email to Mayor Evan Trent. The project is located in a floodplain area termed Zone A, as identified by the National Flood Insurance Rate Map.
