Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino has expanded the Owner-Occupied Property Rehabilitation Program to assist more homeowners in making essential repairs. Previously aimed at helping older adults age in place, the program now includes all income-eligible homeowners, regardless of age. This expansion aims to preserve local housing stock by preventing homes from falling into disrepair, which can worsen the affordable housing shortage.

The program offers financial assistance of up to $40,000 per project to address substandard conditions that fail to meet health, safety, or fire hazard codes. According to Dutchess County's announcement, the focus is on repairing major systems such as furnaces, plumbing, structural elements like roofs and walls, electrical systems, and necessary handicapped accessibility improvements.

Homeowners interested in applying can find instructions and applications online or contact the Department of Planning & Development for further assistance.
