The leader of the Catskill Central School District, Dan Wilson, is resigning from his position at the end of the current academic year. Wilson, who has been in the role for less than two years, will transition to a new position as the assistant superintendent of special education in the Wappingers Falls Central School District in Dutchess County.

In a message to the community, Wilson expressed mixed emotions about his departure but highlighted the accomplishments achieved during his tenure. He noted the removal of both the Catskill Central School District and Catskill Middle School from the state accountability list as a significant achievement. Wilson also mentioned the launch of new curriculum initiatives in math and reading at Catskill Elementary School and the creation of the district’s first long-range strategic plan in approximately 30 years.

Wilson's time as superintendent was not without challenges. He faced criticism for his handling of the so-called Tape Incident, which involved the suspension of two educators and led to protests by students and parents. Despite these challenges, Wilson emphasized the progress made in the district and thanked the community for their support.

The Wappingers school board approved Wilson’s new contract during its May 22 meeting, and he is set to begin his new role on August 22. Wilson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Catskill community and is confident that the district will continue to thrive.
