A 14-year-old boy in Saugerties is facing multiple charges after allegedly menacing a police officer and leading authorities on a short foot chase. The incident began when Saugerties police responded to a 911 call about a dispute on Tuesday (May 27). During the initial investigation, the teen attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by officers.
According to Hudson Valley One, the boy was charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. In a subsequent incident at the scene, the juvenile allegedly struck another individual and attempted to seize an electronic control device from an officer. As a result, he faces additional charges, including the felonies of menacing a police officer and grand larceny in the fourth degree, as well as the misdemeanors of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and menacing in the third degree.
The Saugerties Police Department processed the teen and released him on an appearance ticket into the custody of a third party. The incident took place on High Street in Saugerties. The case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in handling juvenile offenders and the legal consequences that can arise from such actions.
