The Catskill Fire Department in Catskill is set to receive a significant financial boost with a $110,000 grant from New York State. This funding, presented by State Senator Michelle Hinchey, will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. The grant is earmarked for replacing the department's aging equipment and gear, which is critical for first responders when attending emergencies.
Each set of the new gear costs between $4,000 and $5,000. The fire chief emphasized the importance of this grant, noting that the department's current gear is either expiring or about to expire. Without this funding, updating the equipment would have placed a substantial financial burden on local taxpayers.
The grant is a part of broader efforts to support local emergency services and ensure that they have the necessary resources to operate effectively. The Catskill Fire Department, located at 1 Central Ave. in the village of Catskill, will now be better equipped to serve the community and respond to emergencies efficiently.
