In Ulster County, New York, revenues from recreational cannabis sales have not met initial expectations. During the first quarter of 2025, the county collected just over $24,000, which is about $8,000 less than predicted. County Executive Jen Metzger remains optimistic despite the shortfall, attributing it to the evolving nature of the cannabis industry. She believes revenues will increase as more businesses open.
Currently, there are only 12 adult-use dispensaries operating in Ulster County. Metzger emphasizes that the cannabis industry is still in its early stages and expects growth over time. According to the Daily Freeman, Assistant Deputy County Executive Amberly Campbell provided the revenue figures, highlighting the gap between actual and expected income.
As the industry matures, Metzger and other county officials anticipate a rise in both the number of dispensaries and overall sales, which should lead to increased tax revenues. The county remains focused on supporting the growth of the cannabis sector to maximize its economic potential.
