The Ulster County Transportation Council (UCTC) is updating its Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the years 2026-2030. The program outlines federal aid transportation projects, including highways, bridges, bike lanes, pedestrian routes, and transit, scheduled for design and construction in the next five years. The UCTC is inviting residents to provide their input during a public meeting on Tuesday (June 10) at 6 p.m. at the Ulster County Legislative Chambers, located at 244 Fair Street in Kingston, New York. The meeting will also be accessible via a Zoom link.

The updated TIP includes over $160 million in federal transportation aid for the Ulster County Planning Area. The UCTC, which serves as a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), is responsible for making final decisions on transportation planning and programming of federal aid projects in the county. The MPO comprises local elected officials, municipal staff, state and federal transportation agencies, public transit operators, and other stakeholders who collaborate on local and regional transportation initiatives.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the meeting to share their perspectives and learn more about the planned projects. The UCTC is committed to addressing traffic safety, connectivity, and congestion issues, particularly around US Route 9W in the Town of Ulster. The council is also working on a Rail Crossing Safety Study to enhance safety and connectivity for all users.

For those unable to attend in person, registration for the Zoom meeting is available on the UCTC website. The council emphasizes the importance of community involvement in shaping the future of transportation in Ulster County.
