Armed Man in Custody After Standoff in North East

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has released details about an incident that occurred in North East, New York, on Monday (June 9). Deputies were called to a residence in Amenia for a welfare check but found the subject missing. Authorities discovered that the 32-year-old man was armed and in a wooded area near State Routes 199 and 44. During the incident, the man allegedly fired a warning shot into the air.

Law enforcement quickly set up a perimeter and engaged in several hours of negotiation with the man. Eventually, they took him into custody without further incident. Following his arrest, the man was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges are pending as authorities continue to gather information. The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has not released the man's identity. According to Newport Dispatch, the situation was resolved peacefully, and no injuries were reported.
