A visitor to Greenhaven Correctional Facility in the Town of Beekman is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into the prison. On June 14, authorities responded to a report of contraband being introduced into the facility. The investigation revealed that 60-year-old Dawn M. Jones-Mills from Buffalo had brought over 200 pills and approximately 26 pieces of legal paper treated with an unknown substance into the prison.

Jones-Mills has been charged with several offenses, including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree with intent to sell, a class D felony, and knowingly introducing dangerous contraband into a prison in the first degree, also a class D felony. Additionally, she faces two counts of promoting prison contraband in the second degree, which is a class A misdemeanor.

Following her arrest, Jones-Mills was arraigned in the Town of Beekman Court and released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court on June 26 at 6:00 p.m. as the investigation continues. The case is being handled by the New York State Trooper assigned to SP Poughkeepsie.

According to the New York State Police, the investigation into the smuggling attempt is still ongoing.
