Kingston is planning to install speed cameras in certain school zones before the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. The initiative aims to catch drivers exceeding the speed limit by 10 miles per hour or more. Mayor Steve Noble announced that the project has already gone out to bid, and a decision on a supplier is expected soon. The fine for a first offense will be $50.
The decision to implement speed cameras is part of a broader effort to enhance safety around schools. Mayor Noble shared these plans during a meeting with the city's Police Commission on Wednesday (June 18).
According to the Daily Freeman, the cameras are expected to be operational by the start of the school year this fall. The city hopes that the cameras will deter speeding and improve safety for students and pedestrians in school zones.
