Voters across the Hudson Valley region are heading to the polls today (June 24) to participate in primary elections. Key contests are taking place in Ulster, Orange, Putnam, Columbia, and Dutchess counties, where voters will decide on various local positions, including mayoral races in Hudson, Middletown, Pawling, and Woodbury.
The primary elections will determine which candidates will appear on the ballot in November’s general election. To vote in a primary, individuals must be registered with one of four political parties: Democratic, Republican, Conservative, or Working Families Party. The deadline for voter registration was June 14, and for party registration, it was February 14.
Polling locations are open until 9 p.m., and anyone in line at closing time will be allowed to vote. As reported by the Times Union, the results of each contested race will be tracked in real-time after polls close.
For more information on polling hours and locations, voters are encouraged to contact their local Board of Elections. The primary results will help shape the political landscape leading into the general election later this year.
