An investigation is ongoing into a crash that occurred on Tuesday (June 24) at a Stewart's Shops store on state Route 212 in Saugerties. Authorities reported that an elderly woman accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing her SUV to crash into the store's brick facade. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the woman and those inside the store were unharmed.
The incident took place around 12:40 p.m., and the SUV was eventually removed from the scene. The store sustained damage to its front, but it remains unclear how extensive the damage is.
According to the Daily Freeman, the investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess any potential safety measures needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not issued any citations or charges related to the crash. The store remains open for business, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
