Cats rescued from a school bus in Orange County are now available for adoption. An event will be held on Saturday (June 28) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mountain Reformed Church on Blue Mountain Church Road in Saugerties. The cats were discovered living in dire conditions in April when the Hudson Valley SPCA intervened. The cats' owner, who had been evicted from New York City in 2023, was arrested and faces over 100 counts of animal cruelty.

The rescue involved 64 cats, ranging from six months to ten years old, many of which suffered from various medical conditions, including upper respiratory infections and feline immunodeficiency virus. The SPCA has been treating these cats, with some requiring up to three months of care before being ready for adoption.

The SPCA is seeking donations to cover the estimated $60,000 in veterinary expenses needed to treat the cats. Joan Kay, SPCA President, expressed relief at the cats' recovery, noting, "It is just so good to see their eyes better." The adoption event aims to find new homes for these cats, all of whom have been spayed and neutered.
