Local airports in New York are set to receive a share of over $40 million in federal funding, as announced by U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The funding, secured through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to enhance safety and modernize facilities at airports across the state, including Columbia County, Hudson Valley Regional, and Joseph Resnick airports.
The allocated funds will be used for various upgrades, such as replacing automated weather systems, extending runways, and reconstructing parking lots. These improvements are part of a broader effort to boost safety and improve the passenger experience at airports in both urban and rural areas.
Senator Schumer expressed enthusiasm for the funding, stating, "This $40+ million in federal funding will help our airports invest in key safety upgrades and modernization efforts." Senator Gillibrand echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of the funding in modernizing some of the most trafficked airports in the state.
The funding is part of a larger initiative to support infrastructure improvements nationwide, ensuring that airports can continue to serve as vital connectors for commerce, tourism, and community connectivity.
