An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of a small plane crash at New York Stewart International Airport in New Windsor. The incident occurred on Wednesday (July 2) at around 3 p.m. when a Piper J3C-65 aircraft, registered to a resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, crashed nose-first shortly after takeoff.
According to Times Union, emergency crews from Town of Newburgh EMS and the Air National Guard’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting unit responded promptly. Fortunately, the two individuals on board were unharmed and did not require medical transport. The crash did not result in a fire, but the airport was closed for approximately 40 minutes to secure the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the cause of the crash. As reported by Mid Hudson News, the single-engine plane was departing from the airport when the accident happened. No additional information about the individuals on board has been released.
The airport's operations resumed shortly after the closure, and the investigation by the FAA will continue to uncover the reasons behind the crash. Daily Voice noted that this is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
