The long-anticipated replacement of the Garden Street Bridge in Poughkeepsie is set to commence this week, resulting in the closure of Garden Street near West Oakley Street. The project aims to enhance road conditions in this busy area and was initially planned to start in spring 2025 but was delayed to July. The city received $894,000 in state funding and $3.6 million in federal funding for the $4.6 million project.

The bridge replacement will provide a safer structure, improve the turning radius at the Garden Street/Brookside Avenue intersection, and repair crosswalks. This project is viewed as a long-term investment to enhance safety for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians for the next 50 years.

As reported by Mid Hudson News, detours will be in place to manage traffic flow during the construction period. The project is expected to impact local traffic significantly, and drivers are advised to follow the posted detour routes.

Completion of the bridge replacement is anticipated to improve the overall infrastructure and accessibility in the area, ensuring safer travel for all. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
