New York State Police have released the results of their Fourth of July STOP-DWI enforcement campaign, which took place from Thursday (July 3) to Sunday (July 6). During this period, troopers issued 10,497 tickets statewide, focusing on dangerous driving behaviors. The campaign included sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols targeting impaired and reckless driving, as well as the use of handheld electronic devices while driving.

According to New York State Police, the crackdown resulted in 210 arrests for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and the investigation of 716 crashes, including five fatal incidents. Troopers also issued 3,508 tickets for speeding, 258 for distracted driving, 1,061 for seatbelt violations, and 301 for failing to obey the Move Over Law.

In the Capital Region, which is covered by Troops G, K, and F, a total of 2,783 vehicle and traffic tickets were issued. Troop G alone accounted for 796 of these tickets, including 25 DWI arrests, 228 speeding tickets, 22 distracted driving citations, 82 seatbelt violations, and 13 Move Over Law violations.

This year's enforcement campaign saw a slight decrease in the number of tickets issued compared to last year's campaign, which resulted in 12,951 tickets and 335 DWI arrests. The ongoing efforts by the state police aim to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents during holiday periods.
