Saugerties village leaders are exploring measures to reduce speeding on Livingston Street, following concerns from residents about safety. During a meeting on Monday (July 7), village trustees discussed installing stop signs at one of the two side streets connecting to Main Street as a potential solution.
The issue arises from vehicles blocking the line of sight for drivers pulling out from First Street, creating dangerous conditions. Similar problems have been reported on Cross Street, which links Ulster Avenue and Livingston Street. The village is considering these measures to enhance safety and improve traffic flow.
Efforts to address traffic concerns are not new in the area. As reported by Daily Freeman, residents have previously asked for traffic control measures to curb speeding by drivers bypassing stoplights in the business district.
The proposal to add stop signs reflects a broader initiative to improve road safety in Saugerties and neighboring areas, such as the recent installation of stop signs in the Town of Ulster, as noted by Hudson Valley One. The village board will continue to assess the situation and consider further measures to ensure the safety of its residents.
