Junait Shah, the former principal of Catskill High School, has been appointed as the new president of the Catskill Central School District Board of Education. Shah, who served as principal from 2020 to 2024, was unanimously selected for the role and expressed enthusiasm about working with his colleagues to advance the district's goals. He takes over from former President Jeffrey Holliday.

Shah's career in education includes a recent position as the director of innovation and technology for the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District. In this role, he focused on coordinating the district’s long-term technology goals and developing policies around social, legal, and ethical issues related to technology, as noted by WNYT.

Shah's tenure at Catskill High School was not without challenges. He was suspended twice, once following an incident involving a student and duct tape during a musical rehearsal, and again pending an investigation into his qualifications. However, his leadership and commitment to education have been recognized with his new appointment to the school board presidency.

The Catskill Central School District Board of Education is responsible for establishing policies for the district, and its members are elected by district voters. Shah's appointment as president marks a new chapter for the board as they continue to oversee the district's educational policies and initiatives. More information about the board's responsibilities can be found on the Catskill Central School District's website.
