Residents of Ulster County can now vote for their favorite "I Voted" sticker design, with the voting period open until August 15. Six unique designs, created by middle and high school students from across the county, are in the running. The winning design will be distributed during the November election cycle.
A few thousand residents have already cast their votes, showing enthusiasm for the contest, which aims to engage young people in the democratic process. According to the Ulster County Board of Elections, the contest is part of a broader effort to make voting more engaging and fun for the community.
The initiative follows a trend seen in other parts of the United States, where similar contests have been held to inspire youth participation in elections. For example, a recent contest in Michigan went viral, with designs like a werewolf ripping off its shirt gaining popularity. These contests not only encourage creativity but also foster a sense of civic duty among young participants.
The Ulster County contest is expected to draw even more votes as the deadline approaches, with the winning student gaining recognition for their artistic contribution to the democratic process.
