The Ulster County District Attorney has released new details regarding the arrest of Sydney Mills, a Saugerties police officer, who was taken into custody on Monday (July 14). Mills faces multiple charges related to engaging in sexual conduct with a child aged between 14 and 15, including instances that occurred while he was in uniform.
The arrest followed a thorough investigation initiated several months ago when a fellow officer reported the allegations to the Chief of Police. The Chief collaborated with District Attorney Emmanual Nneji to ensure an independent investigation, leading to Mills' arrest.
According to Crimewatch, Mills was arraigned in Ulster County Court by Judge Brian Rounds. He faces charges of Criminal Sexual Act in the second and third degrees, Rape in the third degree, and Sexual Abuse in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Mills is currently held in Ulster County Jail without bail.
The Saugerties Police Department emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, stating they take these allegations seriously and will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. They assured the community of their dedication to maintaining public trust and providing a safe environment.
