On Sunday night (July 20), two separate shootings in Poughkeepsie kept local law enforcement busy. The first incident occurred at a basketball game organized by Skip Lee at Hulme Park, located at the intersection of Church Street and Market Street. During the game, multiple gunshots were fired, causing chaos as hundreds of attendees fled the scene. A female attendee was struck in the leg and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Shell casings were found scattered across the park and surrounding areas.

At the same time, City of Poughkeepsie Police were responding to another shooting at the Rip Van Winkle tower on lower Main Street. In this incident, a victim was shot in the buttocks and transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. The simultaneous nature of these events stretched police resources thin, prompting assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office at Hulme Park.

The basketball game at Hulme Park was reportedly held without the necessary permit. Police are urging anyone with information about either shooting to contact the City of Poughkeepsie police department’s confidential tip line at 845-451-7577.
