Police in Poughkeepsie have arrested two men in connection with a shooting that occurred during a basketball game at Hulme Park on Sunday (July 20). The suspects, Anthony Guillen, 31, of Poughkeepsie, and Charles Clayton Jr., 29, of Pleasant Valley, face charges of felony criminal possession of a weapon.

The shooting took place around 7:05 p.m., with multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired. Officers arrived to find a 37-year-old man from Newburgh with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. According to Mid Hudson News, the park was crowded with basketball players and spectators at the time, though the event lacked proper city permits.

Shortly after the incident, officers located Guillen and Clayton near the Rip Van Winkle apartment building. Both men attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. Guillen was also found to have a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Two handguns were recovered during their arrest.

The suspects were arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and are being held at the Dutchess County Jail on $500,000 cash bail, $1,000,000 bond, or $2,000,000 partially-secured bond. Detective Lieutenant Sean McCarthy stated that the Newburgh man was not the intended target, and the investigation remains active.
