A 27-year-old man from Ellenville, New York, identified as Brian Ventura, also known as "Sosa," is in custody following an attempted armed break-in at a village home early Tuesday (July 22). According to the Ellenville Police Department, Ventura attempted to enter a residence at 6 Mill Street by climbing onto a small porch roof and smashing a window. Armed with a knife, he allegedly tried to stab the occupants through the window but fled when one of them called 911.
Police quickly responded to the scene and located Ventura at a Valero gas station on Route 209, matching the suspect's description. Upon arrest, officers recovered a large knife and a stolen security camera from Ventura. He was charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony, along with counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, and possession of stolen property, all misdemeanors.
Ventura was arraigned in CAP court and is currently held at the Ulster County Jail on bail, awaiting a court appearance in the Town of Wawarsing on Friday (July 25) at 8:30 a.m. The Ellenville Police Department, with assistance from the New York State Police, conducted the arrest and investigation.
