The YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County has imposed new restrictions on teen members following incidents of vandalism, physical altercations, and unsafe behavior. Effective immediately, teens can only access the facility if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or if they are participating in a scheduled YMCA program. The decision, announced on social media, emphasizes the organization's commitment to safety and maintaining a respectful environment for all members and staff.

The YMCA stated that older siblings, relatives, or friends do not meet the requirement for supervised access, as reported by Mid Hudson News. "The decision was not made lightly, but the safety and well-being of our members, staff, and community is our top priority," the organization noted in their statement. They plan to review the situation on Monday (July 28) to reassess conditions for teen re-entry into the facility.

The recent restrictions follow a series of disruptive incidents involving unsupervised teens during the summer break. The YMCA's gym recently hosted a rally led by Governor Kathy Hochul, highlighting the facility's role as a community hub.
