Central Hudson has successfully addressed a natural gas leak in the Timber Ridge area of Woodbury, allowing many residents to return to their homes early this morning (August 1). The leak was initially reported on Tuesday evening (July 29) at approximately 6:22 p.m., prompting the evacuation of several streets, including Helene Circle, Fox Meadow, Plum Court, Teal Court, Sycamore Court, and Walnut Way, as reported by the Town of Woodbury Police Department.

Upon detecting elevated gas levels, law enforcement coordinated with the Red Cross to establish a temporary shelter at the Woodbury Senior Center. Central Hudson repair crews arrived to address the leak, estimating a 6-8 hour timeframe for repairs. However, some residents on Helene Circle are still advised to stay out of their homes while work continues, and no vehicle traffic is permitted on the street. Residents can find alternate parking nearby.

The cause of the leak has not been disclosed, but the response involved multiple agencies, including the Woodbury Police Department, Central Hudson, and the Orange County Sheriff's Office, among others. The utility has restored service to many homes, though some areas experienced temporary gas and electricity outages. For further assistance, residents can contact the Town of Woodbury Police at 845-928-2341.
