12-Year-Old Injured in Middletown Fireworks Accident

A 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries following a fireworks accident in Middletown. The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 29) when the boy was holding a firework that exploded in his hand. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene on Emma and Ashley Avenues around 5 p.m. and airlifted the child to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Witnesses reported that the explosion was so loud it sounded like a gunshot, and several exploded fireworks were scattered on the pavement. According to Mark Lieb of Rockland Video Productions, some witnesses suggested the blast may have severely injured the boy's hand, potentially blowing off his fingers.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident and have requested that anyone who witnessed what happened contact the police. As of Wednesday morning (July 30), no official updates on the boy's condition have been released.
