Sixth Ward Poughkeepsie Councilman Christopher Grant is facing accusations of assaulting a senior citizen during the Caribbean Festival at Waryas Park on Saturday (August 2). The alleged victim, 69-year-old Winston Strachan, volunteered to provide the sound system for the event, which Grant organized with the Caribbean Association of the Hudson Valley.

According to Strachan, an argument with Grant escalated, resulting in Grant allegedly punching him. Event security intervened, and Strachan received medical treatment at Vassar Brothers Medical Center later that afternoon. Strachan reported the incident to the Poughkeepsie City Police Department on Saturday evening.

Mid-Hudson News reported that Councilman Grant has not responded to requests for comment. The incident is currently under investigation, and further legal actions may follow depending on the findings.
