The Village of Catskill has expanded its Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) to include properties on West Bridge and West Main Streets. This expansion aims to better address local infrastructure needs and promote housing, commercial growth, and historic preservation. The DRI, launched in 2016, seeks to improve downtown neighborhoods through a Local Planning Committee (LPC) led by village president Natasha Law and Joe Wildermuth from the Capital Region Economic Development Council.
According to NEWS10 ABC, the expanded boundary will allow for more focused revitalization efforts. The initiative encourages community involvement, inviting residents to submit project proposals by August 18. A public meeting is scheduled for September 4, where project sponsors will present their ideas. The goal is to create more cultural and economic opportunities along the Catskill Creek corridor.
The LPC has received numerous project proposals, with 25 standalone projects and 23 small project fund projects already presented. The committee aims to recommend a variety of capital projects to enhance economic opportunity and quality of life in downtown Catskill. Detailed instructions for submitting proposals are available on the CatskillDRI website.
