Denise Gilpin, a 50-year-old woman from Poughkeepsie has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge for allegedly fatally stabbing her mother, Olga Hinds-Coley, on April 7. The incident occurred at their home on Oak Crescent. According to the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office, police responded to a report of a stabbing at 1:19 p.m. and found Hinds-Coley with a stab wound to the chest. She was transported for medical treatment but later died from her injuries.
Gilpin was arrested the following day and has been held without bail since then. She pleaded not guilty to the charges during her arraignment on Tuesday (August 5). Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi described the case as "an incredibly heartbreaking case, a family torn apart by an act of violence that took the life of a mother at the hands of her own daughter." He emphasized the commitment to seeking justice and accountability under the law.
The Poughkeepsie Journal reported that Gilpin's next court appearance is scheduled for September 24. The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the familial relationship between the accused and the victim. As the legal proceedings continue, Gilpin remains in custody at the Dutchess County Jail.
