A City of Poughkeepsie firefighter was injured while responding to a fire on Roosevelt Avenue on Wednesday afternoon (August 6). The firefighter, assigned to Tower Ladder 2, sustained a hand laceration when a second-story window blew out, sending glass into his hand. The fire, reported around 4 p.m., saw assistance from the Arlington and Fairview Fire Departments.

The blaze was contained to a bedroom area on the second story, causing smoke, fire, and water damage. Fire investigators from the Poughkeepsie Fire Department are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Fortunately, no civilian injuries were reported, and the injured firefighter was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident follows another recent fire in Poughkeepsie, where flames damaged the upstairs living quarters of the Hooker Avenue firehouse. Fire department officials are currently discussing temporary solutions to house on-duty crews while repairs are made.
