The Hudson City School District has appointed Dr. Brian Bailey as the interim superintendent following the resignation of Dr. Juliette Pennyman. Dr. Pennyman, who began her tenure in August 2023, resigned by mutual agreement with the Board of Education, effective Friday (August 8). Her leadership saw an increase in graduation rates, and she expressed pride in the collaborative work achieved during her time in the district.

Dr. Bailey, who will assume his role on Monday (August 11), brings over 30 years of educational experience. He recently retired as superintendent of the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District in Albany County, New York. Dr. Bailey is known for his student-centered philosophy and aims to build strong communities and create supportive learning environments. "I have known parents, staff, and students from the Hudson City Schools over the years and recognize the pride they hold for the school and community," Bailey said.

Dr. Pennyman's resignation follows some controversies during her tenure, including a petition calling for her resignation in October 2024. Despite these challenges, the Board of Education expressed appreciation for her dedication and leadership. Board President Mark DePace welcomed Dr. Bailey, highlighting his extensive experience as a strong fit for the district during this transitional period.

The district will continue its search for a permanent superintendent while Dr. Bailey serves in the interim role.
